The Caño Negro wildlife refuge is a great place to view a plethora of wildlife. A few inhabitants you might spot would be the crocodilian species known as caiman, any one of three monkey species, the three toed sloth, turtles, iguanas, tapirs, wild felines and even the common basilisk, which can run on the surface of water. Bird watching is also a major attraction of Caño Negro, due to the large migratory population. Some of the birds found here include the white ibis, wood stork, roseate spoonbill, green backed heron and many more colorful water fowl.
Our tour begins with an 1 hour and 45 minute drive that takes you 4 kilometers from the Nicaraguan border. At the town of Caño Negro, we will board a boat that will take you through the wetlands and lagoons. Our tour is comprehensive and leads you right into the interior of the wildlife refuge, in contrast to most tours of the area which lower the expense of their trips by only leading their excursion along the Rio Frio and not into the reserve itself.
What to bring: Sunscreen, Rain gear, Water, Insect Repellant
Our tour is comprehensive and leads you right into the interior of the wildlife refuge, in contrast to most tours of the area which lower the expense of their trips by only leading their excursion along into the reserve itself.
